Are You a Teacher of the WORD?

What do teaching of the Word and prayer have to do with each other?
Everything.

There are 2 things that I love to do and feel called to do. Pray and teach the Word. I never really connected the two so powerfully, I just saw them as two different things God was calling me to. Then I read Acts 6:4.

"But we will devote ourselves to prayer, and to the ministry of the word."

Of course prayer should be foundational to all Christians. It should be a daily habit, one that is done "without ceasing". But if you are called to any ministry of the Word of God, fervent praying is essential. It will give life and power to your teaching.

If your life is going to impact others through the teaching of God's Word, the impact will be based on the amount of prayer you wrap around your life and those you are teaching.

Jesus is a perfect example. He came to preach the truth to lost people and be the Savior. People note him for being a man of prayer. Getting up early in the morning and praying through the night. That is the kind of prayer that I am talking about. A time set aside to spend quality time with our God, praying & listening.

Many people are people of prayer, but not all people of prayer are called to be teachers, it may not be God's purpose. However, all great teachers of the Word are also passionate about their prayer lives. I have never heard of a great bible teacher that did not spend countless hours before the throne of God.

If you are called to teach, I challenge you to be devoted to prayer and see how your teaching will produce more and more fruit...to the Glory of God.
